Here are some pieces that grabbed my attention at this year's show at the Sullivan Gallery. I hope to see more from them in the future:
Jillian Schiavi: you're a music like the example you wish
Script text cut along the contours and hung from the ceiling.
John Morris: Home and Away
Plexi with screens of football-themed content. An accompanying book uses terminology related to compare football and spying? Now it escapes me. Beautiful installation and especially the hardware.
J.M. Lowe: Mostly Harmless
Inkjet on paper. Excuse my reflection, but this is otherwise an all-black print except for the Earth in quotation marks.
J.M. Lowe: These Things
Inkjet on paper. Text overlapping several reciepts superimposed on top of one another.
J.M. Lowe: Get Out
Inkjet on paper. Nice text-based work.
Chansavanh Phanthalangsy: Parade it around the room so that everyone may enjoy its splendor
Cut paper hung with lights casting shadows onto the wall behind.
Deborah Haesoo Kim: No Clear Border
Screen printing and nails on fabric.
